Dr. John Dietz, Jr.

Dr. Dietz graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1979 with a concentration in civil engineering as a distinguished scholar. He graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1984. He then completed an internship in general surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington in 1985 and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Madigan in 1991. He was named “Outstanding Resident Teacher” at Madigan Army Medical Center in 1988. He also completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Swedish Hospital Medical Center in Seattle, Washington in 1991.

Dr. Dietz is an inventor and has been awarded patents on surgical instruments used in endoscopic spine surgery. He has authored many articles published in medical journals and has presented at numerous national meetings of orthopedic surgeons.

A former Army orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Dietz is still active in the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also active in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society and the Scoliosis Research Society. Since 1999, Dr. Dietz has served on the OrthoIndy Board of Directors. He also served as chairman of the OrthoIndy Hospital Board from 2002 to 2013. In 2013, Dr. Dietz received the national Spine Leadership Award from Becker’s Hospital Review. Since 2007, he has served on the Board of Physician Hospitals of America.
